The year is 2050. The world is burning. We’ve learned some shit, this is my gift to the living dead of 2023. Why 2023? It’s when things got bad enough that people might listen, but still early enough to make changes that will save lives. Or at least make different mistakes.
What happened? You know what happened, zombies. Everything that was predicted and shared by the scientific community in carefully measured tones. It went down as expected, just a hell of a lot faster. We were always so close to so many technologies that would “save” us. Maybe if we had a little longer, been a little quicker, we wouldn’t be making these shitty homebrew batteries.
The Big Hot hit fast and hard, everything melted, lots of things flooded, what didn’t end up underwater turned desert. People panicked, governments went to war and blew up almost half of the ag land that was left. The folks in the global North tried to lock out the starving people from the South, and that went poorly for all. We drowned and baked and starved and bombed ourselves to death.
There were a lot of us, though, we squeaked through here and there. We’re still putting up a fight. I hope whatever we evolve into over the next few thousand years enjoys my mp3 collection. It’s backed up in about 30 places. There’s a lot of industrial. I hope future archeologists think all music was KMFDM and Lil Nas X.
The other reason I picked your time is that’s when the net split happens. The last gasp of the tech giants is coming, though the old centralized net will keep limping along until the servers rot. Not many chips or rare minerals being shipped across oceans these days, after all. Now when there’s connectivity it’s all Veilid over LoRA meshes. Keeps the government-of-the-week, the bots trying to enforce ancient copyright, and the neighbors who want to steal your shit out of your business. You’ll see.
Anyhow, this little site is a bit of an info dump to maybe ease your way. Enjoy.
